Garden GROUP

The Garden Group is happy to welcome new members.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm in Rushden Hall, Hall Park, Rushden, NN10 9NG, although during the summer months we like to get out and about instead.

Group Leaders are Carole Rider, Sandra Cox and Kathy Main, with Kathy organising car sharing for the group.

February 9th: History of Rushden allotments. Illustrated talk by Group members Gloria and Peter Wright. (Contact: Sandra)
March 9th: Bats in the Garden. Illustrated talk by Juliette Butler of the Bedfordshire Bat Group. (Contact: Sandra)
April 13th: Plant swap . Always popular.
May 11th: Castle Ashby Visit. 2pm. £7.00, to include guided tour of the gardens. Tea Room. Plants for sale. Car share. Payment by 13 th April. (Contact: Carole)
June 8th: Titchmarsh House Visit. 2pm. A 4½ acre garden in the village of Titchmarsh. £8.00 to include refreshments. Car share. Payment by 11th May. (Contact: Sandra)
July 13th: Ascott Visit. 2pm. A National Trust property near Leighton Buzzard. Garden only £5.00, or £10 to include House. NT members free. Payment by 8th June. (Contact: Carole)
August 10th: Delapre Abbey Visit . 2pm. £3.00 to include guided tour of the gardens. Tea Room. Payment by 13th July. (Contact: Carole)
September 14th: The Old Rectory, Sudborough Visit. 2pm. £7.00 to include refreshments. 3 acre garden. Payment by 10th August. (Contact: Carole)
October 12th: Over the Garden Wall. A return visit by Joe Whitehead with an illustrated talk about restoring the walled garden at Blatherwycke. (Contact: Sandra)
November 9th: Barnwell Castle, Manor and Gardens. A return visit by Nicholas Warliker. (Contact: Sandra)
December 14 th: Lunch somewhere. Suggestions welcome.

First meeting of 2018 is on Thursday 8th February at Rushden Hall.

Please do note final dates to receive payment for outings. Cheques payable to “Higham & Rushden U3A”. We need to arrange in the month prior to a visit venue payment through the U3A Treasurer. For the forthcoming year we again hope to keep the cost of meetings at the Hall to £2.00, including refreshments. We have also arranged for the Hall staff to arrange chairs. Thank you for continued support of the plant swap, donations from which help cover speaker fees. For visits, if you don’t have transport but would like a lift please do contact Kathy. Likewise if you can offer lifts do let Kathy know.
