Computing and Technology

We currently meet in the church hall of St Peter RC Church on Higham Road, between the junctions with Hayway and Washbrook Road. (Go through the gate next to the pillarbox and the hall entrance is straight ahead at the end of the alleyway.)

We now meet on the first 4 Thursdays each month from 13:00 to 15:00, aiming to assist members with instructional and problem solving sessions.

The first meeting in 2019 will be on Thursday 17th January 2019: this will also be the last combined meeting.

Thereafter we will split into 2 groups, as follows:

Group A will be held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month working with PC's and Laptops running Windows

Group B will be held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month working on Mobile and Technology products with Android / IOS.

Subjects and content for sessions will be scheduled on the Beacon calendar on the home page of this website.

Parking - all those attending the computer group sessions may park free of charge for the duration of the sessions in the supermarket car park of Home Bargains directly opposite the church hall venue. If you are a member of the group please ensure we have a note of your vehicle details.

Group A details

This group is led by Jim and Maggie Morrison, covering Microsoft Windows.

We will publish our 2019 programme in the group calendar on the home page after the inaugural meeting on 7th February. Each meeting we plan to have a topic covered in a presentation, then a tea and coffee break, and finally a round the table problem-solving session. We find it helpful to do this as an open session so that other members can contribute and hopefully learn from the exchange.

Please bring your laptop and power cable with you. If you normally use a desktop computer please do not bring it! The group now has a laptop for use at the meetings by anyone in that position, but it might be useful to bring your own USB stick (flash drive) on which to save notes of what you learned.

We welcome computer users of all levels of ability.

Please remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer, and do not be afraid to ask.

Group B details

This group is led by Alan Nixson.

Further details of the group programme will follow in due course: the inaugural meeting of this group will be on 14th February.
